Book Review - The Evolution of God by Robert Wright

I first saw this book about a month ago when it came to the library. I was excited and put my name on the hold list. Before the book was available, I heard Robert Wright talking about his book and his theories on the CBC. My excitement grew although at the time, listening to the radio program, I felt that his theorizing stopped short of my own; namely, that the spirit world exists.

After reading about 100 pages of the Evolution of God, the difference in opinion has me wondering whether or not I should continue reading the book. It is 500 pages long, and reading some of one appendix about chimpanzees has me wondering if its worth my time. While I agree with evolutionary theory in terms of biology, psychology and religion, that agreement doesn't preclude my belief and consequent research into empirical studies of PSI, that is, the paranormal or parapsychology: ghosts, spirits, inorganic beings, etc. After reading 100 pages of Wright's book and listening to him on the radio, I wonder if he's convinced that there is a quite real possibility of alternate realities, and conscious, sentient beings with whom communication is possible, albeit via "anomalous" communication.

So I did some preliminary research. There are bona fide (ie. PhD-level) physicists who believe and believe there is evidence for non-ordinary realities. These scientists are Russel Targ, F. A. Wolf, Dean Radin and Gary Schwartz. I'm sure there are plenty more out there and I've decided than rather than look for God and find scientific obfuscation, I'm going to investigate physics and find God.

Well, that's the plan, anyway.
